Flies
-

Biting Midges

Midges are hard to see and often can be seen in swarms.

Female midges do not bite.

Bites from midges can produce itching or swelling. People who are sensitive to insect bites may feel a burning sensation followed by red welts on their skin.

Lay eggs in standing water. Love lakes, ponds, riverbanks, and marshy areas.
Springtails

Very small insects that are either white, black, gray, or blue that feed on decaying organic matter in or on the soil.

Many have the ability to hop or jump like fleas.

Prefer moist areas. Commonly seen in damp wooded areas where they feed on organic matter.
Earwigs

Moderately sized insects, most active at night.

Mainly scavengers but occasionally herbivorous or predacious.

House Crickets
Camel Crickets

Adults are medium-sized and large, often hard-bodied.

Most have two pairs of wings; hind legs are enlarged for jumping.

Stink Bugs
